Shohin Seminar 2018 - Santa Nella California

So the beginning of this month several Baikoen members went to the Shohin Seminar in the small truck stop of Santa Nella California. It is a small truck stop right off the 5 freeway just East of Gilroy. This convention/show happens every other year and brings a ton of people in as it is one of the most affordable bonsai convention to attend this side west of the Mississippi . GSBF Riverside Convention 2017

Its been a whirlwind of a month! Work and VEX Robotics Competitions have been taking up most of my free time. But, I'm still alive and posting when I get a chance to sit in front of my personal laptop. With a VEX Robotics Competition on the same weekend of GSBF Convention all hopes of visiting on Friday, Saturday and Sunday was pretty much out the door. Mother's Day Weekend San Pu Kai Show

Over the Mother's Day Weekend San Pu Kai had their annual show at the Carlsbad Flower Fields. Every Mother's Day weekend like every year its just been difficult to have a chance to escape to view San Pu Kai's show. But, the venue and the show is will worth the effort to come down. San Diego Bonsai Club Spring Show 2017

If you were in the San Diego Balboa Park area this weekend you were treated to beautiful spring show. I have to admit San Diego Bonsai Club has the best location of any club in the Southern California region. They had hundreds of non-bonsai participants walk through the exhibit and really shine a light on this craft. Spring events are my favorite because you get to enjoy the full foliage of the canopy and late spring flowers if they are timed just right. Without further words

Winter Silhouette Show 2017 Setup #53!

As I write this post the sun is out and its kinda warm outside. It was one roller coaster of show. Cats and dogs on setup day, cold and clear on Saturday and back to cats and dogs on Sunday! Nanpukai Show

The show is part of the Nisei Week Celebration in Los Angeles Little Tokyo. Nanpukai show for me usually marks the end of the summer bonsai season. I had the pleasure of visiting Descanso Bonsai Society 47th Show this weekend. This is one of those shows that I always miss because I'm usually traveling the weekend of Father's Day. Santa Anita Bonsai Society 52nd Show

During Memorial Weekend Holiday, the Santa Anita Bonsai Society had their 52nd annual show and exhibition. This show is one of my favorite spring shows because all the trees are in their full glory. Every tree either has full pads, fully flowering, or full of juvenile fruits. This year I had the pleasure in having several Baikoen members join me for a short trip to Dai Ichi Kai's 31st exhibit at the Ken Nakaoka Community Center in Gardena. Dai Ichi Kai takes pride in their small yet very skill club members. San Diego is one of those cities that feel far away but its really in our backyard. I totally forget how close San Diego is until get packed and start heading down. Fall time for bonsai is an interesting time. All the major shows has past and we all are trying to survive our heat wave of late Summer.
