Baikoen Bonsai Kenkyukai 61st Annual Winter Silhouettes Show
January 17-18th, 2026
Location: Los Angeles Arboretum - Ayres Hall
Time: 10:00am to 4:30pm
Baikoen Bonsai Kenkyukai will be conducting our 61st Annual Winter Silhouettes Show the week after Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend at the Los Angeles Arboretum. Our exhibit will have trees in their leafless form, showing off their trunk and branch structures. Our show will offer the following: Exhibit, sales area, Saturday night reception featuring entertainment, giant raffle and auction.

First CBS Artist of 2024 year! Michael Ryan Bell comes back to the LA area and it has been years since he has been back. Michael specializes in pot appraisal so it will be a treat for many if you have that special pot you have no idea who it is from and how much is it worth? Bring in your pots if you like them to be appraised!​

Michael Roberts will be presenting to the club part 2 of a series on deciduous material. Its should be magical as you have seen some of Michael's elms and oaks he knows what he is doing and he has a great depth of knowledge to share with us. Again, this will be a 3-4 series by Michael Roberts and we can't wait to follow each and every single step along the way. Come join us!

Ted is the current Japanese Curator of the GSBF South Collection at the Huntington Library. Ted is based out of Pasadena and brings a huge reservoir of information.

Mike Lane comes to us from Fort Myers, Florida. He has is a rising star in the bonsai community. In a rather short time frame he is already an international bonsai star and has traveled as a guest artist to India! If you are in the area, this is a meeting not to miss if you have tropical species in your collection.

Its going to be a hot Christmas in July this year! Pool party or we call it a mid year celebration when most of our trees are going through a summer dormancy its a time for the caretakers to take a break and have some fun! Once again its going to be the Lau's Residence. Please sign up soon when the list comes out. The club will provide the main dish while the club members will provide all the sides and desserts! Have enough to serve 15-20 people. Also if you like to participate in the annual White Elephant Exchange don't forget to bring a gift.

Seth Nelson is a bonsai professional who trained for nearly six years at Aichi-en Bonsai Nursery in Nagoya, Japan, under Junichiro Tanaka. Known for his emphasis on tree health, natural design, and thoughtful, minimal intervention, Seth brings a refined and traditional approach to his work. For this evening’s program, he will be demonstrating his techniques on a beautiful Hinoki cypress, sharing insights into structure, balance, and long-term development.
