Lecture series at the Huntington


Members of Baikoen and bonsai community you maybe especially interested in the keynote by Drs. Zsolt Debreczy and Istvan Racz from the International Dendrological Institute in Boston, MA. Celebrate the weird, wild and wonderful world of plants!

This summer the Botanical Artists Guild of Southern California (BAGSC), the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) and The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens will co-host a special event celebrating remarkable plants and contemporary botanical art.

Weird, Wild & Wonderful: The New York Botanical Garden Second Triennial Exhibition, a traveling exhibition curated by the ASBA, comes to The Huntington’s Frances Lasker Brody Botanical Center in June. Curated by the American Society of Botanical Artists, this traveling exhibition features 47 contemporary works by ASBA artists from Australia, Canada, India, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. It will be on view in the Flora-legium from June 13 - August 23 (Saturday and Sundays only).

A three-day symposium about science and art will be held at the Brody Center July 23-26, 2016. Symposium highlights include keynote speakers, workshops about botanical art, lunchtime lectures, and workshops ranging from iPhone photography to plant physics. Registered participants will enjoy admission to all keynotes, lunch and snacks on all three days, plus admission to all free workshops Please note that some of the botanical art workshops will have an additional fee.

In early August, an adjunct exhibition of “Weird, Wild & Wonderful” will be presented in the Brody Botanical Center. This exhibition will feature botanical illustrations by members of the Botanical Artists Guild of Southern California. Demonstrations and lectures about botanical art are planned. This exhibition will be on view August 1-9, 2015.
